World Languages Programme

Our World Languages Programme is designed for students studying in HAIS’ International Programme, from Primary School through Lower Secondary (Year 1 through 9).

HAIS’ World Languages programme was founded on the following principles:

  • Teaching and promoting respect for other people and cultures;
  • Development of cognitive awareness of the interconnection between language and humanity;
  • Development of a wider world view, creating an adaptable and understanding mindset; and
  • Improvement of brain function and memory in many positive ways.

English As an Additional Language (EAL)

EAL provides enhanced opportunities for non-native English speakers wishing to further develop their ability to communicate confidently and effectively. Our EAL programme promotes active learning, develops thinking skills and encourages intellectual engagement. With our integrated teaching approach, students will further develop their social skills in English, as well as receive additional support in accessing the academic language of our international curriculum.

French As an Additional Language (FAL)

FAL targets students who are learning French as non-native French speakers. The aim is to develop an ability to use the language effectively for practical communication. The course is based on the linked language skills of listening, reading, speaking and writing, which are built upon as learners progress through their studies. Our instruction is provided by qualified French teachers who follow a structured programme of study, allowing students the opportunity to seek formal qualifications at HAIS when they proceed to the IGCSE level.

Vietnamese As an Additional Language (VAL)

VAL is designed for international students and taught by a team of HAIS Vietnamese teachers, under the direction of HAIS Founder, Ms Tran Hanh An, a linguist, lecturer, editor and book writer, with experience in the field of Vietnamese language learning for foreigners. HAIS has published three uniquely designed and highly practical levelled books titled “Vietnamese Around Me”. This collection of books is suitable for students to learn and use Vietnamese in school or within the local community.
