“Remember to celebrate milestones as you prepare for the road ahead.” (Nelson Mandela)
This week we have much to celebrate. There were so many amazing things happening on campus across all areas, academic, artistic and athletic.
Sculptor Garry Greenwood has been on campus all week working on a wire sculpture for our campus. Garry has donated his time and artistic expertise to HAIS. We are not even going to share any photos with you as we will have an official unveiling of the work when it is complete. We will celebrate the arts, the generosity of Garry and find the perfect home on campus for our latest addition.
We also had the honor of hosting Ms. Lien Nguyen on our campus. Lien is a former World Champion Shuttlecock player and multiple Vietnamese National Champion. She shared the history of the sport with the children, told them about hard work, perseverance and striving for excellence. Each class then had an opportunity to have coaching from Lien in small groups. She also brought enough of the newest model of shuttlecock used by the Vietnamese National team for each student. Many students had her autograph their shuttlecocks and we hope her message and example stays with them. It was a wonderful celebration of excellence for the students to look up to!
Today we celebrated crazy hair day! We had cupcake hair, water bottles, mohawks, neon pink wigs and more. However, nothing could compare to Mr. Jeff and his very own personal Tet tree. The children could not stay away from him and to be honest, neither could the staff! Please check our Facebook page for photos.
Here We Grow Again
We would like to send out a warm HAIS welcome to our newest students and their families; Mila Lotti in Discovery International and Damian Lim in K1 International. Welcome to the HAIS community. We are so pleased you have decided to join us which is always a cause for celebration.
Our final and most outstanding celebration is news for our Primary International Program. We have applied for and have been accepted as a candidate International Baccalaureate (IB) school! This is almost unheard of for a school open for six months. There are only 6 International Baccalaureate schools in Vietnam that offer the Primary Years Programme. We will be the 7th and the ONLY school in Central Vietnam. What does this mean? This is proof that HAIS is striving for excellence. The International Baccalaureate is one of the most respected educational frameworks in the world. We have to go through a very rigorous candidacy year, where we will be monitored, visited, mentored and guided to hopefully becoming a fully accredited International Baccalaureate school by 2020.
There will be parent meetings, coffee mornings and workshops for our community as we transition from the Cambridge Curriculum to the International Baccalaureate framework for teaching and learning. This is an incredibly exciting time for us to celebrate the hard work it took to receive candidacy and to celebrate the INCREDIBLE learning opportunity this provides for our students. On top of this outstanding achievement, we have also been invited into a pilot project with the International Baccalaureate that we will share more details about next week.
It has truly been an amazing week.
Please remember to sign up for After School Activities. Sign up closes on Monday, January 21st. There are many new and interesting activities to try.
We will see you at the green gates on Monday.
