Early Years

Kindergarten is the foundation stage, which gives your child a secure educational platform for later learning.

Kindergarten aims to provide your child(ren) with a rich, meaningful, and balanced curriculum of skills and information through age-appropriate activities that encourage your child(ren) to want to learn more.

We understand that children are curious, engaged and active learners and our experienced teachers will do everything to nurture this.

Our teachers aim to understand how students develop and learn, and try to facilitate a more meaningful and fulfilling educational experience for your child.

We want children to experience the joy of learning that will stay with them throughout their lives.

We aspire to develop our students’ natural curiosity and sense of wonder, through our play and inquiry-based approach to teaching and learning.  By creating carefully curated, intentional learning spaces, our Early Years team caters to the individual needs, interests, and abilities of every student.

Our Early Years Programmes

Our Early Years Curriculum caters to students from 2 years to 5 years of age. We offer two individual yet united curricula at HAIS. The Bilingual curriculum where core subjects are taught in Vietnamese and The Pre, Junior and Senior Kindergarten students have 2 full school days of learning in English, which is taught by our native English teacher The International Baccalaureate curriculum is conducted in English, with the Additional Languages of  Vietnamese, Mandarin or French classes twice a week. This allows students to grow and enhance their knowledge of the Additional Language of their choice as well as the culture.

Students of both curricula join together for specialized subjects of Physical Education and the Arts. HAIS proudly uses a play and inquiry-based approach to teaching and learning. We combine indoor and outdoor play integrated with music, movement and other forms of creative expression. While academics are important, social and emotional learning is integral to growth and development at this age. As the youngest learners in our community, they have a seperate outdoor play area to keep them safe and secure. This includes our brand new Junk Yard Playground and Sound Wall which encourages children to problem solve and work together to build, dismantle and recreate whatever their imagination desires.

Early Years International Baccalaureate

Through our uniquely designed Early and Primary Years Curriculum of the International Baccalaureate framework, we use a transdisciplinary approach to teaching and learning. Real life doesn’t happen in isolation, and neither should learning.

In Early Years the Curriculum of Inquiry must include:

  • Who We Are
  • How We Express Ourselves

The school has the option to select the other two units based on perceived needs, facilities and interest. Each unit offers a specific set of content and knowledge that we want our students to understand.

HAIS has created its own unique curriculum, which takes the best parts of early years curricula from around the world that align with our educational philosophy. We view learning in the Early Years as a continuum. Students readiness is key to success.

Through our unique curriculum, we at HAIS recognise that:

  • Children develop and learn best when they feel safe and valued.
  • Children develop holistically and learn as a whole.
  • Children learn best when they are actively involved in the construction of knowledge.
  • Every student learns and acquires knowledge in a different way.
  • Children continuously change and build upon their prior knowledge, skills and life experiences.
  • Children’s development is influenced by the different social and cultural contexts around them.

The Bilingual Early Years Curriculum

Our Early Years Bilingual curriculum follows the same learning outcomes as the International curriculum with a focus on social and emotional learning.  We offer a play and inquiry-based approach to teaching and learning, our qualified and engaging Vietnamese teachers share the Bilingual curriculum with our native English teachers to ensure that the students can learn and practice both languages concurrently.

Our native English teachers actively participate in teaching bilingual students so that they can achieve the best results. In our bilingual curriculum there is an equal amount of time spent learning English and Vietnamese for our Early Years students. The Pre Kindergarten, Junior Kindergarten and Senior Kindergarten students have 2 full school days of learning in English, which is taught by our native English teacher. This creates a platform whereby students are able to use the language with fluency and accuracy. This curriculum is unique in that it allows our bilingual students to share the class with our international students in all specialized single subjects such as Physical Education, Arts, and Environmental Awareness taught by native English specialists. Moreover, students in both the Bilingual and International Curricula have many opportunities to interact with one another, which allows them to communicate and engage with each other on an ongoing basis.

Our uniquely designed bilingual curriculum gives our students the opportunity to learn about the Vietnamese traditional values  through our Language, Social Study and Culture knowledge classes. Our English portion of the curriculum allows our students to broaden their knowledge, culture and use of the English language, which prepares them to be active global citizens.
