Enriching Our School Community – Welcome to the Secondary Team!

As the new school year begins, we are delighted to introduce a group of talented and dedicated teachers who have joined our secondary team. These educators bring with them a wealth of knowledge, fresh perspectives, and a passion for teaching.

Ms Helena

Ms Helena is lucky to work in many different departments and can be found all over the school. She is the Year 7 Homeroom teacher, teaches IGCSE French as a Foreign Language, Art to lower primary students and French World Language. She is also active outside of the classroom, helping to run Sports Fridays for both primary and secondary, co-coaching the girls’ volleyball team and running a gymnastics ECA. As Ms Helena says – a mix of all her favourite things!

Ms. Helena grew up in Canada, where she had her own experiences studying in British Columbia’s robust Immersion programme. These experiences inspired her to focus on language education in her studies. She obtained a Bachelor of Education degree, followed by a Certification in teaching French Immersion and a Graduate Diploma in French Language, Culture, and Curriculum.

Ms. Helena’s background has instilled in her a deep appreciation for the benefits of being bilingual. She particularly enjoys using multi-modal learning techniques, such as oral games and activities, to support language acquisition. Witnessing the growth and “A-HA” moments of her students makes her efforts all the more worthwhile.

In her French classes, she hopes to cultivate a comfortable atmosphere in the classroom so students are willing to take risks to improve. Her ultimate aim is to foster a sense of pride in student’s newly acquired language and to encourage functional use of that language outside of school. When it comes to Pastoral, her main focus is to support students in building a community, working through issues together, and cheering each other on!

Ms Marie-Helene

Ms Marie has spent 20 years of her career in the Travel and Tourism industry, which has taken her to far-flung, exotic and remote locations all over the world. With this unique first-hand knowledge and experience, we knew she was the perfect person to spearhead our new IGCSE Travel and Tourism course for year 10. Even though Ms Marie spent years of her career in the Travel and Tourism field, teaching has always been where she’s found so much joy. Whether it be teaching college students the intricacies of the tourism industry or French and English language classes in remote villages or big cities, being in a classroom is where she feels most at home.

Ms. Marie’s passion for her subject stems from the act of traveling itself, which broadens the mind and perspectives. Studying Travel and Tourism therefore means studying the world around you, discovering new countries, new cultures, new ways of doing business or just living life. For Ms Marie, studying Travel and Tourism also means developing empathy and understanding the magic of travelling experiences. For her, the IGCSE Travel and Tourism course is exciting, it’s challenging and it’s a course that holds a vast range of career opportunities into the future.

In the Travel and Tourism classroom, Ms Marie hopes to cultivate an inclusive and supportive environment. She enjoys creating a stimulating and enjoyable learning environment that is both challenging and playful. For her Travel and Tourism students, Ms Marie hopes they get to broaden their horizons and understand that everything on this Earth is linked and has an impact. She views the Travel and Tourism industry as a great example of globalisation and is linked to history, geography, sustainability, business and psychology.

With the arrival of these talented individuals, our secondary team is poised for an enriching and inspiring academic year. From their diverse backgrounds to their innovative teaching methods, these new teachers are sure to ignite a love for learning and empower our students to reach their full potential.
