The Arts

At HAIS, we want every young learner to have the opportunity to discover the artistic strength that lies within them.

To have a strong Arts programme, teachers must create safe spaces where students feel free to take risks and make mistakes. There also need to be opportunities for students to be vulnerable and open to critiques and feedback which requires a trusting and nurturing environment. Whenever possible the Arts are integrated into the Programme of Inquiry. However, there are times when these subjects simply do not authentically connect with a certain Unit of Inquiry. In this case our talented and highly qualified Arts specialists will offer independent inquiry into subject specific knowledge, concepts and skills.

The Arts at HAIS encompass the follow areas:

  • Visual Arts
  • Music
  • Dance
  • Drama

There are multiples ways for delivery of the Arts curriculum during the academic year.

Developing or supporting a unit within the programme of inquiry:
Whenever possible the Arts are integrated into the Programme of Inquiry. They help students make deeper connections to the knowledge and concepts in the homeroom.

Independent arts inquiry:
Whenever possible the Arts are integrated into the Programme of Inquiry. However, there are times when these subjects simply do not authentically connect with a certain Unit of Inquiry.
