Upper Secondary – IGCSE
Hoi An International School (HAIS) is one of the leading Cambridge-accredited international schools in Da Nang and Hoi An, providing a full educational pathway from Early Years to IGCSE and A Level.
At HAIS, our IGCSE programme offers students an academically rigorous and well-rounded education, preparing them for success in their future studies and careers. The IGCSE years are a time of growth, where students develop independent learning skills, critical thinking, and subject mastery. With a wide selection of subjects, accelerated learning pathways, and a clear progression to A Levels, our IGCSE programme ensures that students are fully prepared for the next stage of their education.
As students enter Upper Secondary, they begin to shape their own academic journey by selecting specialist IGCSE subjects that reflect their interests, strengths, and ambitions. Whether a student is passionate about the sciences, arts, sports, or commerce, we work closely with them to identify a pathway that suits their goals and learning style. Through one-on-one guidance, mentoring, and regular check-ins, we ensure that each student feels confident and supported in their choices.
At HAIS, Upper Secondary is more than a curriculum, it’s a launchpad for independence, growth, and lifelong learning.
What is Cambridge IGCSE?
The Cambridge IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) is the world’s most widely recognised international qualification for students aged 14 to 16. Based on the British education system, it provides a strong academic foundation while encouraging global perspectives and independent thinking.
At HAIS, students typically follow a two-year IGCSE programme, completing their studies at the end of Year 11. The curriculum is designed to deepen subject knowledge, build conceptual understanding, and develop essential higher-order thinking skills, preparing learners for a wide range of post-16 pathways, including A Levels.
IGCSE qualifications are accepted by leading universities and employers worldwide. At HAIS, we deliver this programme in a way that is internationally-minded, academically rigorous, and student-centred, ensuring that each learner is challenged, supported, and inspired to achieve their full potential.

Results that speak for themselves
At HAIS, we believe that outstanding outcomes are the result of personalised learning, dedicated teachers, and students who are inspired to achieve their best.

Mathematics was once again a particular strength, with 60% of candidates achieving an A*. In an excellent example of HAIS’s approach to stretch and acceleration, one Year 10 student was entered for IGCSE Mathematics a full year ahead of schedule and achieved an A*. This success reflects HAIS’s Accelerated Mathematics Programme, which gives students the opportunity to progress beyond the standard curriculum pathway and allows them to gain additional IGCSE qualifications before progressing to Additional Mathematics in Year 11. The programme provides greater academic challenge and breadth, while helping students build a strong foundation for future A Level study.
Success at HAIS extends well beyond examinations. Our A Level graduates have earned scholarships and secured places at leading universities across Europe, North America, and beyond. They also excel in international competitions, mathematics challenges, public speaking, the arts, sport, and community leadership.
These achievements reflect more than academic excellence. They demonstrate the confidence, resilience, curiosity, and global outlook that our students develop throughout their journey at HAIS, preparing them not only for university, but for life beyond the classroom.
