Write Your Own Stories | Why I Choose Hoi An International School for My Own Daughter?
At Hoi An International School, many of our teachers are also parents. They experience HAIS not only as educators, but also as families who have chosen the school for their own children. In this story, Ms Jennifer, Drama Teacher and HAIS parent, shares her reflections on what makes HAIS such a special place to learn, grow, and belong. _ As both a parent and a member of staff, I have had the privilege of experiencing Hoi An International School (HAIS) from different perspectives, and I can honestly say that I genuinely love being part of this community. One of the things I value most about HAIS is its truly international environment. With students and staff representing more than 40 nationalities, children learn alongside peers from diverse backgrounds and develop the communication skills, understanding, and global outlook needed for an increasingly connected world. As an educator, I appreciate the balance between academic achievement and personal development. While students follow a rigorous Cambridge curriculum, they are also encouraged to explore their interests through sports, the arts, leadership opportunities, service learning, and extracurricular activities. As both a parent and a member of staff, I have had the privilege of experiencing Hoi An International School (HAIS) from different perspectives, and I can honestly say that I genuinely love being part of this community.
As a Drama teacher and theatre practitioner, I have been fortunate to watch students discover new talents, build confidence, and express themselves creatively. Seeing this growth firsthand reminds me that education is about more than academic results. It is about helping young people become confident, capable, and well-rounded individuals.
What truly sets HAIS apart, however, is its sense of community. The relationships between students, teachers, parents, and staff create an environment where people genuinely care for one another. Throughout my time at the school, I have witnessed countless examples of kindness, support, and collaboration.
This sense of community became especially meaningful to me during one of the most difficult periods of my life. The support, compassion, and kindness shown by colleagues, parents, and students reminded me that HAIS is more than a school. It is a community that stands together and cares for one another.
As my daughter Ingrid prepares to move from Primary into Secondary School, I feel incredibly proud of the person she is becoming. Watching her grow within the HAIS community has reinforced my belief in the school’s values and approach to education.
There is no greater vote of confidence I can give than choosing Hoi An International School for my own daughter.
For me, HAIS is more than a workplace or a school. It is a place where students are challenged academically, encouraged to pursue their passions, and supported by a community that truly cares.
I am proud to be part of the HAIS family and look forward to many more years ahead.
Jennifer’s story is one of many at HAIS.
Across our community, there are families whose lives are closely woven into the school in different ways. Parents work alongside teachers and staff, while their children learn, grow, make friends and create their own memories here.
For these families, HAIS becomes more than a workplace or a school. It becomes a place they experience together, as a family and as part of a wider community.
And perhaps that is one of the most meaningful parts of belonging to HAIS: sometimes, the stories we write here are not ours alone. They become part of our family stories too.
