The Importance of Pastoral Program

“Children need to feel emotionally safe to learn at their deepest and highest capacity.” This quote encapsulates the core of our approach to teaching and learning at the primary level, where emotional well-being plays a vital role in academic success and personal growth. At Hoi An International School, our pastoral programme is naturally embedded into our daily teaching practice. Whether we are reinforcing our values, conducting check-in circles to help students express and identify their emotions, or role-playing scenarios to resolve conflicts in a safe, respectful way, these activities become part of our everyday classroom culture.   This constant integration of social and emotional learning not only supports academic development but nurtures a positive, caring community. We understand that each cohort of students is unique, and we tailor our pastoral lessons to meet the individual needs of our learners. Aligned with the Cambridge Wellbeing curriculum, our programme focuses on building essential social and emotional skills such as self-awareness, empathy, and emotional regulation. By helping students recognise and manage their feelings, they are better equipped to form positive relationships, navigate challenges, and develop resilience. By embeddi
